“William Masters (12/27/1915-2/16/2001) and research assistant Virginia Johnson pioneered research on human sexuality (31). Virginia Johnson is best knows for her work with William H. Masters researching sexuality in humans. She began working with him in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Washington University in St. Louis (44). They observed participants in various sexual acts and identified four stages of sexual response. In addition, they treated a variety of sexual disfunctions. The two married and stayed together for 22 years before divorcing.
